Egypt rise two spots in July FIFA rankings

Egypt rose two places in the latest edition of rankings, and are now just two spots behind African rivals in the standings.

The Pharaohs maintained their position as the fifth-best team in Africa, following (32), Côte d’Ivoire (35), (36) and Senegal (43) respectively.

A Mohamed Salah brace guided Egypt to victory over Tanzania in early June, a result that pushed Egypt up in the July rankings but failed to achieve Pot 1 seeding for the 2018 World Cup qualifying groups draw.

As a result, Egypt were drawn with Ghana, and , with Hector Cuper’s men kicking off their campaign away to in October.

    Haha, back to 5th! What a joke.

    I guess it’s good we weren’t in pot1 and ended up in Algeria’s group instead of them.

    But man would it have been sweet to take Tunisia’s place in their group.

      If we were in pot 1, we couldn’t be in the same group as Algeria.
