Congo boss Lechantre: Mohamed Salah was exceptional
Congo national team manager praised Egypt speed demon Mohamed Salah after the latter’s performance in the Pharaoh’s 2-1 win over Congo.
Pierre Lechantre had claimed prior to Congo’s World Cup Qualifier against Egypt about the importance of marking Mohamed Salah, claiming that Egypt were not the team it once was 10 years ago.
Despite Lechantre’s comments, Hector Cuper’s men managed to take away all three points from Congo Brazzaville in the group opener, to top group E leaving Congo at the bottom.
“We knew that in that team there was an exceptional player called Mohamed Salah. We talked about it all week and we were trying to see what the best solution to prevent harm us,” Lechantre said to reporters after the match.

The Frenchman then pointed out to Salah’s goal and assist against Congo. Despite that, Lechantre believes his team’s loss was not deserved.
“It’s hard to find what went wrong because despite everything, I believe that the Congo team played out a game of high quality. Certainly high quality, we expected a win or a draw. Unfortunately our opportunities did not count,” Lechantre concluded.
