Mohamed Salah came in as a second half substitute but could not help Roma defeat Austria Vienna in UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Roma failed to build on their big 3-1 victory against Napoli last week in Serie A and weren’t able to make progress in their Europa League group after settled for a 3-3 draw against the Austrian side, giving away a two-goal lead.

Raphael Holzhauser put Vienna ahead with a fine volley on the top corner.

Roma then took control of the game as Italy striker Stephan El Shaarawy struck twice. Francesco Totti, who was making his 100th appearance in European competitions for the Giallorossi, set El Shaarawy for the opening goal.

Another assist by the 40-year-old Roma legend, a brilliant cross which found Alessandro Florenzi who launched a powerful volley in the the back of the post.

But late goals from Dominic Prokop and Kayode leveled the score as Vienna walked out of Stadio Olimpio with a point.

Salah came in to replace El Shaarawy in the 65th minute but could not help Roma bag all the spoils.

The Serie A side remain on top of the group alongside their Thursday opponent Austria Vienna.
