South Africa’s Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula has expressed his discontent of the treatment the Mamelodi Sundowns team has been receiving in Egypt ahead of their crucial return leg match against Zamalek in CAF Champions League final.

Sundowns managed to prevail over Zamalek with a big 3-0 victory in Pretoria and are hoping to achieve a positive result in Alexandria in order to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time in their history.

The Brazilians have launched a complaint against Zamalek after they were denied access to a training facility from the hosts. Mbalula stated on Friday that he condemns such behaviour.

“We have liaised with our Embassy for intervention and sort things out. This was unexpected. I have noted with grave concern reports coming from Egypt that Sundowns could not train,” Mbalula said in a statement on his official Twitter page.

“We are upset of such behaviour and condemn it in the strongest terms, these actions have made prestigious championships like the CAF ones not to be respected. All football loving people must frown upon such incidents.” he added.

This is not the decisions or the will of the fans. The Egyptian fans and especially Zamalek fans are victims of a thuggish club president and security apparels who are complete idiots. The fact that Sundowns are denied a training ground is unacceptable, but Egyptian fans and people have nothing to do. Our own fans are being given limited tickets through a fence…scenes out of a movie really.

Dont be mad at Zamalek or the fans. Be mad at their stupid president and our security forces who refuse to secure any even including a foreign team training ground.
