Sam Morsy features as Barnsley finally end winless streak
Sam Morsy’s Barnsley finally ended their winless streak with a comfortable 2-0 win away to Brentford, as Adam Armstrong and Sam Winnall scored for the South Yorkshire side.
Barnsley were underdogs going into the game at Griffin Park, but in the opening twenty minutes they matched Brentford to say the least.
Barnsley were continuously becoming more positive over the course of the first half, and were eventually rewarded when Conor Hourihane, on his 100th club appearance, sent a cross in to Watkins who flicked it to Armstrong who finished well.
Sam Morsy, who seems to have added a more creative element to his game in recent weeks, found the goalscorer Armstrong again, but his shot went over the bar.
Morsy continued to be a creative influence in the second half, this time linking up with captain Hourihane to create a chance for Kent, however the keeper was equal to his shot.
Kent persisted to push for a second Barnsley goal, and following a driving run his shot hit the inside of the post and rebounded to Sam Winnall, who had the composure to make it 2-0.
In the closing stages, Hogan would continue to try and get a consolation goal for the Bees but again Adam Davies was able to hold down the fort as the game finished 2-0.
The result means that Barnsley end a run of seven games without a win, stretching back to the 13th of September, and also moves the Tykes up to 12th place, level on points with their opposition Brentford, however Barnsley are just below them on goal difference.
