EXCLUSIVE | CAF reveal stance from Sundowns training venue problems
Confederation of African Football [CAF] officials have revealed their stance surrounding the issue raised by Mamelodi Sundowns around the training venue in Egypt.
Following those reports, South Africa Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula took to his Twitter account to raise concern regarding the matter, saying: “We are upset of such behaviour and condemn it in the strongest terms…”
CAF competitions committee revealed their stance to KingFut concerning the matter, revealing that regulations state that each team has to make their own arrangements.
What is mandatory is the official training session on the eve of match day, which is supposed to be today and so, Zamalek are in the clear concerning such claims coming from the South Africa Minister of Sports and Recreation.
CAF rules state that as per the regulations each side makes their own arrangement, but teams can reach an agreement for reciprocity. According to regulations, the visiting team is entitled to one training session on the pitch to host the game on the eve of the game if the pitch is natural grass, but if the pitch is artificial turf, the visiting team entitled to two training session on match field.
It is worth noting that the Whites faced problems of their own in South Africa after they were forced to change their training pitch after arriving in South Africa for the first leg due to riots by the fans around that area.
KingFut approached Fikile Mbalula regarding CAF’s statement to which he refused to comment.
Zamalek will take on Sundowns at Borg El-Arab Stadium on the 23rd of October in the Champions League return leg after succumbing to a 3-0 defeat last week in Pretoria.
