Egyptian full-back Omar Gaber played the full 90 minutes as his side fought back away from home to draw 2-2 against a defiant Lugano.

Following a disappointing 3-0 loss mid-week against PSG in the Champions League, FC Basel looked to correct their form.

After a goalless first half, Basel were first to draw blood in the 51st minute. Captain Matias Delgado beautifully struck a free-kick into top corner of the net to open the scoring.

However, Lugano shocked the visitors with two goals in quick succession. Mariani’s 30-yard strike was followed up by Alioski’s penalty, in the 63rd and 75th minute respectively, which gave Lugano the 2-1 lead.

The spoils were shared in the end, after Balanta was dragged down in the box in the 88th minute. Calla sent the keeper the wrong way and gained Basel the point.

Regardless, Basel sit atop the Swiss Super League with 32 points and unbeaten in 12 league matches. Basel play Grasshopper next in the league in Gameweek 13.
