Zamalek manager says back-up keeper Gennesh to start against Sundowns
First-choice goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy has picked an injury in the first leg and was replaced by Gennesh in the second half. Soliman however said that Shennawy, who came under fire following his performance in the away game, is fit and has recovered from injury.
“El-Shennawy is fit but Gennesh will start the final game,” Soliman said in the pre-match press conference.
Soliman also revealed that Moruf Youssef will start the game at the left back position, saying that “critics don’t know the circumstances of his team.” Left back Ali Fathi is injured and won’t take part in the final, according to the Zamalek manager.
Zamalek will be looking to overcome a 3-0 deficit when they face Sundowns at the Borg El-Arab Stadium on Sunday, after suffering a disappointing defeat in the first leg at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
PREVIEW: Historical comebacks that give Zamalek hope against Sundowns
“We don’t have magical solutions to overturn the result, but we will fight and avoid making mistakes,” Soliman said.
“We didn’t make many tactical mistakes in the first 30 minutes of the first leg, but we’ve a problem in withstanding the pressure from the opponent’s fans,” he added.
The Zamalek coach said that he’s pinning his hopes on fans to help the team achieve the “desired” result.
“I ask the fans to exercise patience and not rush things. We can score at any moment,” Soliman added.
