Momen Soliman: the best team won and Fathi could leave in January

Momen Soliman

After losing the Champions League final on aggregate to Mameloudi Sundowns, Zamalek’s coach, Momen Soliman admits that the best team won.

The White Knights lost 3-1 on aggregate to Mameloudi Sundowns and failed to win their 6th Champions League title after winning the second leg 1-0.

In his post-match conference, Soliman stated, “The best team won the Champions League, but we were better today’s game at Borg El Arab. We needed an early goal to comeback again and gain confidence ”

He added, “Zamalek made history by reaching the final along with the difficult circumstances we faced and we could definitely make it to the final next year with a full squad. The only thing that changed from the first leg match, was the amazing fans who kept on cheering for the players, even after the game has ended.”

On resigning before the game, the 42-year-old said,” I held the hopes of 40 million fans to win the title, and I wanted to leave to avoid embarrassing them, but Zamalek’s president backed me and gave his full confidence to fight for the title.”

Finally, on Mostafa Fathi’s departure, Soliman said,” Mostafa could be leaving very soon, we convinced him to stay for the Champions League although he had a European offer, but he could be leaving in January.”
