Late own goal gives Watford victory over Hull City
The Tigers managed to put in a solid defensive display, but a late own goal by Michael Dawson handed Watford the three points.
Watford XI: Gomes, Britos, Kaboul, Prodl, Amrabat, Deeney, Behrami, Ighalo, Holebas, Capoue, Pereyra
Hull City XI: Marshall, Maguire, Dawson, Davies, Clucas, Mason, Livermore, Elmohamady, Henriksen, Keane, Abel Hernandez
The hosts controlled the possession in the early stages of the game and created a number of chances, putting the guests under pressure, but their shots lacked accuracy.
Meanwhile, Hull managed to put in a good defensive display and denied the hosts from scoring in the first half of the game. The visitors had few chances midway through the first half, but failed to convert.
After the break, the hosts continued to pressure Hull and managed to keep them inside their own half of the field, but the Tigers’ defensive performance helped them keep the score at 0-0.
The game seemed to be heading into a draw, until Michael Dawson’s attempted clearance of Janmaat’s cross went straight into his own net to give Watford the lead seven minutes to full time.
Ighalo almost made it 2-0 but his shot went wide, while Hull were unable to score an equaliser as the game ended in a 1-0 victory for the hosts.
Hull, who will face Southampton on Nov. 6, sit 18th on seven points after 10 games, while Watford moved to seventh place after collecting 15 points.
