Kahraba injured as Ittihad defeat Hilal in Saudi Derby


Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim ‘Kahraba’ was injured as Ittihad Jeddah beat Al Hilal 2-0 in the Saudi Derby on Friday, at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.

Mahmoud Kahraba started the match but picked up a serious injury that prevented him from playing on, and resulted in him being replaced just before the end of the first half.

Al Hilal’s Nasser Al-Shamrani came close to score the first goal in the fifth minute, but his shot his the post.

13 minutes later Al-Shamrani was in the thick of action again, as he went one-on-one with Ittihad’s goalkeeper but his shot was saved by the latter.

Ittihad’s first chance came after 23 minutes through Kahraba, but the Zamalek loanee dragged his shot wide.

In the 45th minute Kahraba was tackled by Yasser Al-Shahrani; the Egypt international tried to continue playing but was eventually forced to leave, and was replaced by Sultan Mendash.

Mendash had an immediate impact as he received a ball inside Al Hilal’s area, but his shot went over the bar before the end of the first half.

Ittihad started the second half on the front foot, and were rewarded after 10 minutes as they took the lead through Ahmed Assiri, who met Carlos Villanueva’s corner with his head to find the roof of the net.

Following Ittihad’s goal, Al Hilal completely took control of the game, searching for an equalizer but couldn’t break through Ittihad’s defense.

Ittihad’s counter-attacks finally reaped benefits when Abdulaziz Al-Aryani doubled his team lead in the 78th minute, as he converted Fahd Al Muwallad’s low cross into the back of the net.

With this win, the Tigers have restored their lead at the top of the Saudi Pro League table, overtaking the defeated Al Hilal once more.
