TP Mazembe scored a valuable away goal in a 1-1 draw against MO Béjaïa on Saturday evening, in the first leg of the 2016 CAF Champions League final.

TP Mazembe and MO Béjaïa met in the first leg of the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup final on Friday evening, three months after battling for top spot in Group A in the last eight of the competition.

DR Congo giants Mazembe came out on top on that occasion, and after both teams qualified for the final, the Algerians were raring to avenge their earlier loss.

However, it was Mazembe who got off to the better start, when Jonathan Bolinga converted from 12-yards out after his side won a penalty shortly past the half-hour mark.

Hosts Béjaïa came out stronger in the second half, and were rewarded when captain Faouzi Yaya scored the equaliser, but Mazembe held on for the remainder of the match to see out a 1-1 draw that will surely boost them before the second leg next week, which will be played in Kinshasa.

The winner of the Confederation Cup will face off against 2016 CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2017 CAF Super Cup.
