Alexander Jakobsen’s Bodø/Glimt lose as relegation looms
Egypt-eligible Alexander Jakobsen’s FK Bodø/Glimt fell to a 0-2 loss against Viking in the penultimate round of the Norway Tippeligaen, and will fight for relegation on the final day of the season.
The hosts came into the encounter on the back of two losses against Aalesund and Haugesund respectively, results that left them dangerously close to relegation rivals Stabaek and Tromsoe.
It was therefore imperative for Bodø/Glimt to achieve a favorable result on Sunday evening against opponents Viking, who are seated comfortably in mid-table.
However, the visitors shocked the home crowd when they took the lead through Usmani Sale in the 39th minute, leaving their opponents with an uphill battle in the second half.
It went from bad to worse midway through the second period; Viking won a penalty, and Andre Danielsen doubled his side’s lead from 12 yards.
Jakobsen was taken off in the 86th minute to be replaced by Morten Konradsen in a desperate attempt to instigate a late comeback, but Viking held on to see out the 0-2 scoreline.
The loss leaves Bodø/Glimt in the relegation playoff spot (14th) with 30 points, just two points above the first of two automatic relegation spot, currently occupied by Stabaek.
Jakobsen and his teammates will travel to league champions Rosenberg on the final day of the season needing a win, as well for other results to go their way.
