OFFICIAL: Smouha sack Vieira, reappoint Helmy Toulan
Smouha have terminated coach Jorvan Vieira’s contract and reappointed Helmy Toualn as his successor, the Alexandria-based club announced on Tuesday.
Smouha chairman Farag Amer has referred Vieira to investigation before terminating his contract on Tuesday over his “offensive” comments on Egypt as an alleged audio recording of the Brazilian coach was leaked, in which he attacked and criticised Amer and Egypt.
Following Vieira’s sacking, the club appointed former Zamalek player and coach Helmy Toulan as the new manager.
Toulan had previously coached Smouha on two separate occasions. His first tenure was in the middle of the 2014/15 season, in which he guided the team to the CAF Champions League group stage, while his second started in February 2016 as he helped Smouha secure a third place finish in the 2015/16 season.
The sacking of Vieira comes one day after Smouha clinched a 2-1 victory over Ismaily to move up to second in the league table on 16 points and close the gap with leaders Al Ahly.
Smouha’s next game will be against Arab Contractors on Thursday.
