Misr El-Maqassa beat Wadi Degla 4-2 in an entertaining match in the eighth round of fixtures of the 2016/17 Egyptian Premier League, to climb to the top of the standings.

Misr El-Maqassa had more chances in the first half, and it was no surprise when Paulin Voavy scored the Fayoum-based club’s first goal in the 37th minute, as Maqassa went into the break with a one-goal advantage.

Six minutes into the second half, a howler from Essam El-Hadary gifted Nana Poku a golden opportunity to score his side’s second of the afternoon, and the Ghanaian duly capitalized.

However, in the 59th minute Wadi Degla were given a lifeline when Arafa El-Sayed halved the deficit.

Two minutes later, Mostafa Taalat scored Degla’s second goal to tie the match.

In the 75th minute, a penalty was awarded to Maqassa, and league top scorer Ahmed El-Sheikh scored his 7th goal in as many games.

The win was wrapped up in the 90th minute, when Nana Poku added a fourth goal for Ehab Galal’s men.

The result sees the visitors overtake reigning champions Al Ahly at the top of the league standings, with almost a quarter of the season gone.

Misr El-Maqassa’s next match is against El Dakhleya on November 16, while Wadi Degla face against Smouha on November 17.
