Jorge Costa has been sacked as the Gabon national team manager just two months before the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 45-year-old, who was appointed as Gabon manager in 2014, will be replaced with compatriot and former technical director of the Gabonese federation Jose Antonio Garrido.

Costa was sacked after winning only four games of the last 15, crashing out early at the 2015 African Cup of Nations as well as drawing with Morocco 0-0 at home in the World Cup qualifiers.

Gabon were drawn in group A alongside Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso and Cameroon, with the tournament set to kick off January 14.

Garrido’s first game in charge will be against Mali on Saturday, November 12 in the second round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
