Trezeguet scores and is shown red in loss to Standard Liège

Belgian giants Standard Liège narrowly beat Mahmoud Trezeguet’s Royal Excel Mouscron with a score of 2-1 in gameweek 14 of the Belgian Pro League.

Mouscron started the game on the right foot, threatening the hosts’ goal in the third minute through Trezeguet, who failed to find the target from close range.

The visitors did well to hold back Standard Liège’s dangerous chances despite the intensity of the match. In the 42nd minute, Standard Liège’s most dangerous chance was wasted by Ibrahima Cissé, who’s shot went over the bar. The first half ended without any goals.

In the second half, Mouscron failed to maintain the score with Standard Liège’s forwards breaking up the defense on several occasions. IN the 55th minute, Algeria’s Ishak Belfodil opened the scoring for the home side.

The home side double its lead in the 71st minute through Edmilson Junior. However, just three minutes later, Trezeguet pulled one back and was later booked for his celebration.

Mouscron pushed forward in search for an equalizer, but the Standard Liège defense kept the score at 2-1. In the 83rd minute, Trezeguet was shown a second yellow card with, leaving his team with ten men.

With this loss, Mouscron is in 14th place with 11 points and are winless in five consecutive league games. Next up, they host Genk on November 19 after the international break.
