Former Al Ahly manager Juan Carlos Garrido has been revealed as new Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq’s manager, and spoke about his excitement and ambitions with his new club club.

Garrido had been sacked by the Cairo giants after an early CAF Champions League exit and series of poor performances in the Egyptian Premier League.

Garrido was extremely happy with the welcome he received upon arriving in Saudi Arabia to manage Saudi Professional League side Ettifaq, the first team he will manage after parting ways with Al Ahly.

“I would like to thank the fans for the warm welcome they gave me. I felt great warmth and ambition to to achieve their dreams,” he said, and continued, “Happiness is an integral part of success and, on my first day here at the club, I already feel at home.”

The Spaniard emphasized, “Being Ettifaq’s manager is a new phase for me with new ambitions. I’m keen on bringing success to the club, but success is achieved only with hard work.”

“I want to make the fans happy, but again, this will only be achieved with hard work and high spirits from the players. One of my most important principles as a manager is the team’s fighting spirit and how to instill it in the players,” explained Garrido.

“Over the last few years, the Saudi Arabian league has been gaining more followers in Europe, and as a manager who coaches abroad, I have been following the league,” he pointed out.

He added, “During my time in Egypt, I started to follow the Saudi league more closely, and it is evolving significantly.”

“I’m confident that I will succeed here with Ettifaq. I have a great desire to work with the club, and after watching the club and learning more about it, I’m confident that I will bring positives to the club,” concluded Garrido.

Ettifaq President Khaled Al-Dabal and Vice President Hatem Al-Mishal were also present at the press conference and they expressed their confidence in Garrido.

Al-Mishal said, “We spoke with many people who worked with Garrido, like Wael Gomaa and Mohamed Abou-Treika, and they’ve all praised his work.”

It is worth nothing that ex-Zamalek defender Mohamed Koffi joined Ettifaq early in the season, after tensions between the player and club arose.

Ittifaq currently sit in sixth place with 13 points from eight games, just six points away from league leaders Ittihad Jeddah.
