Ghana national team manager Avram Grant discussed security concerns related to his visit to Egypt, saying that he considers late Egyptian president Anwar El-Sadat his hero.

The Israeli manager was reportedly warned by Israeli security authorities not to travel to Egypt for his team’s crucial encounter against the Pharaohs in the second round of 2018 World Cup qualifications, which is scheduled to take place at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

Despite the warnings, Grant insisted to travel to Egypt and lead the Black Stars on Sunday, saying that he isn’t expecting to receive a different treatment in Egypt due to his nationality.

“Yes, I knew about these warnings but I am fully concentrated with my team,” Grant told Al-Nahar Reyada satellite channel.

“I am a football coach and not a politician. I worked in countries that didn’t have good relationship with my country and there will not be much difference in Egypt,” Grant told Ghanaweb.

“I think there won’t be any discrimination against me in Egypt, I will be treated like any other foreigner regardless of my nationality,” Grant added.

Amid Ghanaian news reports that Grant might face possible security threats in Alexandria, Egypt FA executive director Tharwat Sweilam said last week that they don’t care about Grant’s nationality, adding that they will treat him as any other manager.

The 61-year-old coach said that he considers late Egyptian president Anwar El-Sadat, who visited Israel in 1977 and signed the first Arab-Israeli peace treaty in 1979, his hero.

“I think my favorite hero is Anwar El-Sadat. When he came to Israel, I was young and there were lots of wars. I think he was very brave and proud and he wanted to ensure that no one dies from Egyptians and Israelis,” Grant added.
