Elmohamady: I was close to joining Everton
Egypt and Hull City full-back Ahmed Elmohamady has revealed his plans to stay at Hull City until 2019, after almost joining Everton last summer.
“Change is a good thing and I’m not bored at Hull City. I have the love and respect of my teammates at the club and a very strong relationship with everyone,” Elmohamady said, talking to TV channel dmc sports.
“Last season I received offers from Everton, Crystal Palace, and Swansea City,” the 29-year-old revealed.
“However, my move to Everton was compromised due to the departure of Roberto Martinez, and the signing of Dutchman Ronald Koeman,” he continued.
“Steve Bruce, Hull City’s previous manager, met with me before his unexpected departure and asked me to extend my contract due to his confidence in my abilities, which was formed over the five years we have worked together,” Elmohamady discussed.
“Because of this, I extended my contract for 3 years and hope to stay with Hull City till the end of this contract.
“I moved to Hull City when they were in the Championship as a big gamble because I wasn’t playing at Sunderland, and because of my admiration for Steve Bruce,” Elmohamady concluded.
