Egypt’s Mohamed ElShorbagy and Karim Abdel Gawad have successfully reached the Qatar Classic semi-final after winning their quarter final matches on Wednesday.

World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy and World Champion Karim Abdel Gawad qualified to the semi-final of World Series tournament Qatar Classic, after defeating Simon Rosner and Marwan El Shorbagy in the quarter-finals.

ElShorbagy took on Simon Rosner in the quarter-final after defeating Hong Kong’s Leo Au 3-1 in the second round. The World No.1 beat German No.1 Rosner 3-2 in a brutal five-games battle and he is set to face Englishman Nick Matthew in the semi-final.

Shorbagy leads the head-to-head record with 11-8 as both players met 19 times with the Egyptian winning 6 of his last 7 encounters with The Wolf, Nick Matthew.

World Champion Karim Abdel Gawad defeated the younger Shorbagy brother, Marwan, 3-1 in the quarter final. It is worth mentioning that Gawad had qualified to the quarters after defeating another Egyptian, Zahed Mohamed, 3-2.

Gawad’s win over Marwan ElShorbagy secured another Egyptian-English battle in the semi-final as the Baby-Faced Assassin is set to face Englishman Daryl Selby.

The World Champion is 2-0 up on the head-to-head against Selby with the Egyptian aiming to make it 3-0 to reach his second World Series final after losing to Ramy Ashour in the Hong Kong Open in August.

Youssef Wael is a massive Al Ahly and Manchester United supporter from Cairo, Egypt. One of the few Egyptians who never really wanted to have a career in football, just played it as a hobby. Wael also played squash for 7 years.
