Elneny reveals the reason behind his Arsenal shirt number
Egypt international and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has revealed the reason behind his Arsenal shirt number.
The Egyptian international, who joined the Gunners in January 2015, wears the number 35 shirt for Arsenal and he explained to DMC why he chose that particular number.
“I was playing on PlayStation when Arsenal sent their coach to keep me in shape, so Alaa Nazmy [Football agent] told me to move myself from Basel to Arsenal in the game and to play with them to know my new teammates,” Elneny told DMC.
“When I moved myself to Arsenal, we found out that I was assigned the number 35 shirt by the game, but I didn’t give too much attention to it.
“I scored too many goals by myself [Elneny] in that day and in a goal celebration we saw Elneny pointing to his shirt number, so I told Alaa that I will choose number 35 after the transfer is complete.
“Then we went to France for medical tests and there I found out that my hotel’s room number is 435, so I felt optimistic about getting number 35 shirt and that was the reason behind it.
“I was offered the number 17 shirt when Alexis Sanchez took number 7, but I rejected it,” Elneny concluded.
