Arafa El-Sayed grabs brace as Degla edge ENPPI in thriller
Arafa El-Sayed scored twice – including a late winner – as Wadi Degla defeated ENPPI 4-3 in a thrilling encounter on Tuesday afternoon.
Manager Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ came into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw with Smouha on his debut, and was aiming for a win to kick-start his Wadi Degla tenure.
Arafa El-Sayed won a penalty in the 27th minute, after his shot hit an outstretched defender’s arm inside the area. Moustafa Galal cooly placed the resulting spot-kick down the middle, to put his side in the lead.
Much like Mido’s first match in charge, however, Degla allowed their opponents to equalise immediately afterwards; Boubacar Diarra accidentally headed the ball past his own goalkeeper to bring ENPPI back on level terms.
Amr Marei then pulled ENPPI in front with an excellent finished right after the hour mark, as Degla trailed for the first time.
Arafa El-Sayed scrambled the ball past the line to equalise for his team in the 74th minute, as the hosts refused to stay down in an increasingly stretched second half.
Amr El-Halawany thought he’d wrapped up a win for ENPPI when Essam El-Hadary somehow failed to keep out an ordinary free-kick effort in the 84th minute, but Samuel Afum capitalized on abysmal defending to make it 3-3 two minutes later.
El-Sayed then capped off a Man-of-the-Match performance by heading past a naively positioned Abdel-Monsef in the final minutes, as Mido celebrated ecstatically with his players on the touchline.
Up next for Wadi Degla is a tough match against Al Masry, who sit two points above the former side in the league standings.
