FC Barcelona and Spanish National Team legend Carles Puyol praised Egypt and Mohamed Salah in a televised interview at the Golden Foot awards.

“I’m very happy to be chosen as a legend in the Golden Foot Awards. It’s another award for my career. I was lucky to play football for many years, playing for FC Barcelona and the Spain national team. I won all the trophies, played with the best players, and with the best coaches. Always when you are given an award after retirement it is an amazing thing and I’m very happy to be here,” Puyol told Egyptian TV channel ON Sport.

Puyol was then asked about the Barcelona match against Al Ahly in 2007, which Barcelona won 4-0.

“I remember the game because we won 4-0. It was a great experience and the fans loved the football. The last time I was in Egypt I had the chance to enjoy and see the country and it was amazing. I wish to go back, spend more time there, and visit more places,” the 38-year-old enthused.

Puyol was then asked about Egyptian football, clubs, and players.

“In terms of clubs, I don’t know much. I know Mohamed Salah is a very fast player. A player that is hard for a defender to mark because there is little they can do, given his speed. He is a dangerous player and can approve. We will see how far he goes in the future,” Puyol stated.

“I played for Barcelona for many years, a club that has a big fan base all over the world. I was lucky to be at Barcelona for 15 years with the first team and 10 years as captain. Thank you to all the fans that support wherever I go and show me their love,” he concluded.

In addition to being a football/soccer and basketball enthusiast, I am currently pursuing a combined BS/MD degree at VCU. I also currently work as a Pharmacy Technician in my spare time.
