Kahraba’s Ittihad set to face Atletico Madrid in a friendly
Mahmoud Kahraba’s Ittihad Jeddah are set to face Atletico Madrid in a friendly to celebrate 90 years on the club’s foundation.
The club’s Vice President Omar Ahmed Massoud has announced in a press conference that Ittihad Jeddah are set to celebrate 90 years on their foundation and as part of these celebrations, a friendly with last year’s Champions League runners-up Atletico Madrid will take place.
He also said: “I announce that on behalf of the club’s President, we intend on celebrating the passing of 90 years since the club’s foundation as the oldest and most prestigious of the clubs in the Saudi Arabian Kingdom,
“That’s the kind of event that the board are keen on organizing in such a way to suit the historical stature of our great club.”
On the reason Ittihad chose Atletico Madrid as competitors in the celebration friendly, the club said that the incredible form Atletico Madrid has been having in Spanish and European football as well as the fact that they haven’t played in the Gulf region before are the main reasons for that choice.
It’s worth noting that Atletico Madrid were La Liga winners in 2014 while being runners-up in the Champions League in 2014 and 2016.
