Essam El-Hadary: Playing for Al Ahly is different
Wadi Degla and Egyptian National team goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary has responded to critics following below-par performances in the Egyptian Premier League with Wadi Degla.
Speaking to ON Sport, the 43-year-old explained the reason why he concedes easy goals in the league, claiming that it comes down to the huge difference in aspirations between Al Ahly and the other clubs he played for.
“Playing for Al Ahly is different than playing for any other club I’ve played for. There’s an entirely different back-line ahead of you. In Wadi Degla the ambition is different as we are trying our best to finish the league in a good place with the quality we have,” El-Hadary said.
“Al Ahly’s defenders play in the national team, that’s why I play better on the international level. In one of the matches with Wadi Degla I conceded an own goal from one my teammates, so what can I do about that ? All I need to do is work hard and perform at the highest level for the team.
“After returning from the national team’s training camp, my goal is to work hard, do my best and show up in the best possible shape to join the national team’s next training camp,” he concluded
