Official: Tarek Yehia given 2012 Olympic medal
Egyptian weightlifter Tarek Yehia jumped to third place in the weightlifting 85kg clean and jerk category in 2012 London Summer Olympics after Russia’s weightlifter Apti Aukhadov was stripped from his silver medal.
The International Olympic Committee re-analysed the blood samples of some of the athletes who participated in the Summer Olympics in 2012 and Aukhadov was one of these athletes. Surprisingly, his blood samples showed that he had been using banned substances.
Yehia, who won fourth place at that time, jumped to third place. Thus, given the bronze medal. This also helped Iranian weightlifter Kianoush Rostami, who jumped to second place instead of third and was given the silver medal.
