VIDEO: Panetolikos lose to Xanthi despite Amr Warda goal
Amr Warda was helpless to prevent Xanthi from defeating Panetolikos 2-3 on Sunday evening, despite scoring a 64th-minute penalty.
The Canaries defeated AE Larissa before the international break, and looked to start a winning streak to propel themselves up the league standings, with a win against rivals Xanthi.
It was the visitors who took the lead, however, as Panagiotis Triadis scored in the 19th minute to silence the Panetolikos home support.
Djordje Lazic then doubled Xanthi’s advantage three minutes into the second period, as the hosts’ chances of a comeback dwindled.
Nevertheless, a well-placed penalty from Egypt’s Amr Warda handed the Agrinio-based club a much-needed lifeline.

Younez Hamza dispatched a spot-kick for Xanthi nine minutes later, to all but seal an important away win, seconds before Warda was replaced by Tomane.
Luis Rocha gave the visitors a late scare when he reduced the deficit in the 86th minute, but Panetolikos failed to find an equaliser in the dying seconds of the match.
This result sees Xanthi leapfrog Panetolikos in the table, and the latter side could find themselves as low as 10th when the weekend action comes to an end.
