In the 12th round of the 2016-17 Egyptian Premier League, leaders Al Ahly beat Sharkia 3-0 to open a four point at the helm.

A goal each from Walid Soliman, Momen Zakaria, and Ahmed Fathi ensured a big win over newly promoted side Al Sharkia. The win saw Hossam El Badry coached Al Ahly’s impressive streak persist.

The route embarked in the opening ten minutes when Walid Soliman slotted the ball into an empty net from a side piece to give the hosts an early lead.

Al Ahly defender Ahmed Hegazy was lucky not to have turned the ball into his own goal to level the scores for the visitors moments later.

Al Ahly continued to dominate the tempo of the game, coming very close to scoring a second time on several occasions. In the 23rd minute, Marwan Mohsen connected with Fathi’s cross but failed to find the net with his header as the ball went wide.

A few minutes before the end of half-time, Abdallah El Said had his goal disallowed for him being offside. In the 41st minute, Mohsen forced a goal line clearance from the Sharkia defense. The first half ended with the Cairo-based side leading by one goal.

El Said was not fazed by his disallowed goal as he assisted Ahmed Fathy, who fired a powerful volley to extend the Red’s lead with 20 minutes to the end of the match. In the 86th minutes, second half substitute Momen Zakaria scored a curler to seal Al Ahly’s victory.

Veteran striker was subbed on in the final minutes of the game to make his first appearance in a league match this season.

Al Ahly have 32 points from 12 games played, four points ahead of Misr El Maqassa, who have an extra game in hand.
