SQUASH: Egypt beat USA to reach WWTC semi-finals

Egypt’s women national team smashed USA 3-0 in the fourth day of the Women’s World Team Squash Championships to reach the semi-finals.

In the first game, Egypt was represented by Nouran Gohar who defeated Olivia Blatchford 3-0 (11-3, 11-4. 11-7), before World No.1 Nour El Sherbini beat America No.1 Amanda Sobhy 3-1 (11-7, 11-9, 4-11, 13-11) in 42 minutes.

In the third match, the Egyptian team secured the semi-finals spot after Raneem El-Welily defeated Reeham Sedky 2-0 (12-10, 11-5).

“The last time we played in Hong Kong, I lost to her [Amanda] so this time, I was completely focused on the first game as I really wanted to win today for the team,  for everyone else,’’ Nour El-Sherbini said in her post-match interview.

“Last time, we lost in the semis so hopefully luck will be on our side and it will be different here and we’ll all try to give 100%.’’

It’s worth mentioning that Egypt advanced to the quarter-finals in the third day after defeating Mexico 3-0. The Egyptian team was represented by Raneem El-Welily, Nouran Gohar, and Omneya Abdel Kawy who won all their games.

Egypt are set to go head-to-head with hosts France in the WWTC semi-finals, with the Egyptian team being favorites to reach the tournament final.
