Patrick Malo: Burkina Faso a good team, I am fine at Smouha

Smouha left back Patrick Malo has discussed his adaptation to life with the club while also predicting a better Africa Cup of Nations campaign for his Burkina Faso side next month than their one in 2013.

Malo is living a good moment with Smouha at the time being, having appeared in the Alexandria-based team’s all 14 games so far in the Egyptian Premier League this season. Smouha currently sit in the third place in the standings after collecting 26 points.

“One month remaining on AFCON. We [Burkina Faso] intend to to do better in Gabon than in the 2013 edition where we were the runner-ups. I remember at that time I was following the national team on local TV,” Bano told

“Right now big nations in Africa are taking us seriously and are considering Burkina Faso a very good team that is making progress, that is why it is not easy for us. It will not be the first time we face Gabon, Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau. It is a difficult group but going through is not impossible. For me, there are no favourites in the group since all teams are on par.”

The 24-year-old international talked about life in Alexandria and hopes with Smouha, without forgetting to mention his relationship his fellow Smouha teammate Banou Diawara, whose crucial goal against Botswana sent The Stallions through to AFCON.

“My goal is to reinforce my place in the national team and be one of the three or four firm points in the team. This will happen through my good performances with Smouha. I am currently a starter with the team, and thank God the fans and the players helped me adapt quickly. I am very well here [in Alexandria]. I have some difficulties in language but fortunately technology exists, I have an application on my phone that allows me translate what I want to say.”

“My relationship with Diawara? In national team and club we are nicknamed “The Couple” because we are inseparable, we always do everything together. We have been teammates since a very long time.”
