Koka’s Sporting Braga eliminated from Europa League
Ahmed Hassan Koka’s Sporting Braga have been eliminated from Europa League following a heavy 4-2 defeat from Shakhtar Donetsk at home on Thursday evening.
The defeat saw the Portuguese side finish the group stages in third place, after Belgian side Gent scored a late winner against Turkey’s Konyaspor, which saw them qualify to the knockout stages instead of Sporting Braga.
Shakhtar’s Sergey Krivtsov opened the scoreline in the 22nd minute, before Taison doubled the Ukrainian side’s lead in the 39th minute.
Two minutes before half-time, Braga’s forward Stojiljkovic scored his side’s first goal, but Shakhtar responded by scoring twice through Krivtsov and Taison in the 62nd and 66th minute.
In the 89th minute, Montenegro international Nikola Vukcevic pulled one back for Braga, but it was not enough as Koka’s side fell to a 4-2 defeat.
Braga will turn their attention to the domestic league as they sit 4th with 23 points, six points behind league leaders Benfica.
Ahmed Hassan Koka’s side will host Pacos Ferreira on Sunday December 12 hoping to surpass Porto and climb third in the Primeira Liga standings.
