Asian Champions League draw resulted in strong clashes especially for Group C, which includes last season’s runners-up UAE’s Al Ain and Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli.

Al Ain, Al Ahli and Iran’s Zobahan who already qualified for the pool phase will be playing in Group C this year along with either Qatar’s El Jaish or Uzbekistan’s Bunyodkor.

Mohamed Abdel-Shafy’s Al Ahli were eliminated from the round of 16 of the tournament last season by Naft Tehran after a 2-2 tie on aggregate, which helped the Iranian side qualify over the away goal rule.

The tournament starts with the preliminary round and the winners will qualify to the group stage, which will begin on February 20 and conclude on May 10. The AFC will continue the separating system that divides the western and eastern clubs of Asia.

Al Ain were close to winning the title last season but lost 3-2 on aggregate to South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
