AS Roma director Antonio Tempestilli believes that Mohamed Salah’s absence during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will have a significant impact on the Italian team.

Roma are expected to lose the Egyptian winger to the AFCON, which runs from Jan. 14 to Feb. 5 in Gabon. Salah will be on international duty with the Pharaohs who were drawn in Group D along with Ghana, Mali and Uganda.

Tempestilli has admitted that the winger’s absence will represent a loss to Roma, but believes coach Luciano Spaletti would seek the best for the team.

“Salah’s absence will be significant for us, but this will be tended to in the future. We will see how Spalletti arranges and adjusts the team,” Tempestilli told Sky Italia.

“Invest into the market? Massara [Roma sporting director] will evaluate in accordance with the management whether the club should intervene or not”, Tempestilli added.

Last month, Spaletti has ruled out the possibility of signing a replacement for Salah, believing that he has players who will manage to fill Salah’s boots.

AS Roma general manager Mauro Baldissoni has also said that the club have no intention to replace Salah in January as they already have strong reinforcements and can do well without him.
