It has been confirmed that Algeria’s attacking midfielder Ryad Boudebouz will miss the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Gabon in January after he sustained a knee injury.

Boudebouz is experiencing a fine season with Ligue 1 side HSC Montpellier, having scored seven goals and registering two assists in 16 games so far.

Montpellier announced on Wednesday that the 26-year-old attacker will miss several weeks as a knee operation is required, with Boudebouz himself clarifying that is a meniscus surgery.

The Algeria international, who got injured during his side’s encounter against Lille where they conceded a 2-1 defeat, is expected to miss his country’s campaign in Africa Cup of Nations 2017, where they were drawn with Zimbabwe, Tunisia and Senegal in the African competition.
