Gaber: The national team is going through an important phase
FC Basel and ex-Zamalek right back, Omar Gaber, is optimistic about Egypt’s national team progress in the future and especially in the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Gaber is currently in Egypt and will later on join the national team’s training camp before the 2017 AFCON. He was also present in Petrosport stadium on Tuesday supporting his previous team Zamalek in the league.
“The team is in a good form now and I’m happy with the good start we had achieving six points in the World Cup qualifications,” he told DMC TV channel.
“Qualifying to the 2017 AFCON is not an achievement, but it is important specially after failing to qualify for three consecutive times,” he added. “Our aim is to make Egyptian fans happy and we’ll make sure to focus now on performing well in the AFCON.”
Gaber also talked about Zamalek saying: “Of course I watch Zamalek’s matches, the club is my home. I am grateful to the club and always trying to return the favor,” he said. “I wish the players the best of luck and hope that the team wins the league.”
The 2017 AFCON will start on the 14th of January. Egypt is in Group D with Ghana, Mali and Uganda. The pharaohs will play all of their group stage games at Stade de Port-Gentil in the city of Port-Gentil at 21:00 CLT.
