EFA explains stadium situation for World Cup qualifications matches
Tharwat Sweilam, the Egyptian Football Association ‘EFA’ executive director, confirmed that the EFA is trying hard to play Egypt’s matches against Uganda and Congo in the World Cup qualifiers in Cairo stadium.
The national team is currently on top of Group E of the African 2018 World Cup qualifications with six points from two games, two points ahead of second-placed Uganda, as the Pharaohs defeated Ghana in their last game 2-0.
“We will do our best to have the two matches for Egypt against Uganda and Congo played in Cairo stadium, but repairs that are being made around the stadium might stop us, especially if we want to have fans supporting the team,” Sweilam explained.
“If we failed to get the needed security approvals we’ll start looking for alternatives, Borg Al Arab and other stadiums are options.”
There is still plenty of time for the ‘EFA’ to coordinate that as Egypt’s next game in the qualifiers will be against Uganda in August 2017.
