Aswan withdraw from Egypt Cup due to ‘fixed’ draw
Speaking to Al-Nahar Sport, Abdelkader expressed his frustration of being drawn against a premier league team in the round of 32 for the second year in a row. Another club that suffer from the same controversy is Al Nasr Lel Taa’deen, who were drawn against Sharkia.
“We have decided to withdraw from the cup and this is a final decision. We knew that Al Nasr officials will take a similar decision,” he added.
“Last season, Aswan was the only club that played against a premier league side in the round of 32, not only did we lose to Ittihad of Alexandria at the time but we also had to play them at their ground in Alexandria,” he followed.
Abdelkader has also claimed that the Egyptian FA want to avoid clashes between Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek at the early stages of the tournament.
“If the draw was fixed from the start to avoid any clashes between Al Ahly and Zamalek at the early stages of the tournament, then why wasn’t it fixed so that we face Al Nasr Lel Taa’deen or host any team from Cairo at our ground ?,” Abdelkader added.
“Our decision is final. We will be spending a sum of 120,000 Egyptian pounds if we faced Tanta, and I don’t accept squandering such a huge amount of money,” he concluded.
