Ittihad Jeddah face threat of relegation from SPL
Ittihad Jeddah face relegation to the second tier of the Saudi football League system because of a financial dispute with former player Damián Alejandro Manso.
The Tigers have been deducted three points for failing to pay Damián Alejandro late dues and were dropped to third place in the Saudi Professional League (SPL) to level with Mohamed Abdel-Shafy’s Al Ahli, but the latter are ahead on goal difference.
If Ittihad fail to pay Alejandro’s wages they are owed even after deduction of the points they could be sent down to the second tier of the Saudi football, according to FIFA’s statement.
It’s worth mentioning that Egypt international winger Mahmoud Kahraba is playing for Ittihad Jeddah on loan from Zamalek and has scored 12 league goals in 13 appearances so far this season.
With this decision, Ittihad are currently third in the league with 31 points, three points behind leaders Al-Hilal, and their upcoming game is against Abdel-Shafy’s Al Ahli in the Saudi Crown Prince Cup Semi-finals on December 27.
