EFA: We’re choosing between Kassai and Clattenburg for the derby
Egyptian Football Association ‘EFA’ board of directors member and head of the refereeing committee Essam Abdel-Fattah confirmed that the association has limited the referees choice for the derby between Viktor Kassai and Mark Clattenburg.
The derby was confirmed to be played on the 29th of December and was moved from Borg El-Arab in Alexandria stadium to Petrosport in Cairo.
Referees should arrive on Wednesday to Cairo and Abdel-Fattah confirmed that either Viktor Kassai or Mark Clattenburg will be leading the game. “We will reveal that name of the referee on Tuesday night,” he added.
Both Kassai and Clattenburg however have an interesting career and refereed in important matches and championships. Hungarian Kassai’s most highlighted refereed match is the 2011 UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium in London. He also recently became the first referee to award a penalty after viewing a video replay in the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup.
English Clattenburg also lead remarkable final matches which included the 2016 UEFA Champions League Final and the UEFA Euro 2016 Final.
