Egypt international players Mohamed Abdel-Shafy and Mahmoud Kahraba faced off as Ittihad Jeddah beat Al Ahli in the semi-finals of the Saudi Crown Prince Cup.

The Tigers qualified to the semi-finals after beating Hamoudi’s Al Batin in the quarter finals, while Mohamed Abdel-Shafy’s Al Ahli defeated Al Hajer 6-1.

Ittihad Jeddah took the lead just before the half-hour mark through Tunisian forward Ahmed Akaïchi, who converted Awad Khrees cross into the net.

Ten minute later, Egypt international Mahmoud Kahraba extended Ittihad’s lead after a great link up play with former Esperance striker Akaïchi. The Tunisian squared the ball for Kahraba, who finished well into the bottom corner.

After the break, Al Ahli pressed to reduce the scoreline, but it took them until the 72nd minute to find the back of the net through Omar Al Soma.

Four minutes later, Kahraba conceded a penalty, which saw Omar Al Soma score the equaliser with only 12 minutes to go.

The Tigers thought they had squandered the game but Fahad Al Muwallad had other ideas as he scored a 90th minute free-kick to send his side to the final.

Seven-time winners Ittihad Jeddah are set to face Al Nasser in the final game of the Saudi Crown Prince Cup after the latter beat record holders Al Hilal 2-0 yesterday, December 26.

It’s worth mentioning that both Mahmoud Kahraba and Mohamed Abdel-Shafy were called up by Egypt manager Héctor Cúper to represent Egypt at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
