Belhanda and Tannane ruled out of AFCON
Morocco international players Younès Belhanda and Oussama Tannane have been ruled out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations this January.
The duo were named in Hervé Renard’s provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, but unfortunately they have suffered an injuries which will make them miss the tournament this January.
Saint-Étienne’s Oussama Tannane’s replacement will be FC St. Pauli’s Aziz Bouhaddouz, who has represented the Moroccan national team three times, scoring once against São Tomé and Príncipe in the World Cup qualifiers last September.
Meanwhile, Younès Belhanda’s replacement is yet to be named by the French manager Hervé Renard, who was appointed as the Atlas Lions’s manager last February.
Morocco was drawn in group C alongside Ivory Coast, DR Congo, and Togo, with the top two teams from the group advance to the quarter-finals.
They will kick off their campaign against DR Congo on January 16, then head on to face Togo and Ivory Coast on the 20th and the 24th respectively.
It’s worth mentioning that the Atlas Lions have won the trophy once in 1976 and were runners-up in 2004. They have also came third in 1980 and finished fourth on two occasions in 1986 and 1988.
