Juventus defender Medhi Benatia leads the list, joined by Youssef El-Arabi and Karim El-Ahmadi.

On the other hand, Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech was surprisingly excluded from the squad that will take part in AFCON. Nice ace Younes Belhanda and Saint Etienne’s Oussama Tannane were ruled out due to injury.

Morocco were drawn in group C alongside Ivory Coast, DR Congo, and Togo.

They will kick-off their campaign against DR Congo on January 16, then head on to face Togo and Ivory Coast on the 20th and the 24th respectively.

It’s worth mentioning that the Atlas Lions have won the trophy once in 1976 and were runners-up in 2004. They have also came third in 1980 and finished fourth on two occasions in 1986 and 1988.

Update: Renard called up Napoli midfielder Omar El Kaddouri to replace injured Watford winger Nordin Amrabat.
