Algeria international defender Carl Medjani has returned to Turkey, signing a one-and-a-half-year deal with Super Lig side Trabzonspor.

The 31-year-old had terminated his contract with Spanish side CD Leganés after spending less than six months with the club, before joining Trabzonspor.

This marks the second stint for Medjani with Turkish side, as he featured for the club between August 2014 and January 2016.

The defender played for many clubs throughout his career, including French sides Lorient and Ajaccio, AS Monaco, and Spanish club Levante UD.

Medjani kicked off his footballing career after signing with Liverpool in 2003. Liverpool had to compete against Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester United, and German giants Bayern Munich to secure the services of Medjani.

He played for the French national team from the U-16 to the U-21 level; however, being of Algerian origin, he made the switch to represent Algeria in international competitions. He was not called up for the Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Gabon between Jan. 14 and Feb. 5.
