Egypt move up one spot in January’s FIFA rankings
Egypt have moved up one spot in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday as they currently occupy the 35th position.
Egypt had maintained their 36th position over the past two months before ascending one spot in January rankings. They currently have 726 points, compared to 719 points last month.
The Pharaohs are now ranked the third best in Africa, after trading places with Tunisia who dropped to the 36th position worldwide. Egypt are seven points behind Ivory Coast, who are ranked as Africa’s second-best team, and 17 behind highest ranking African side Senegal. Senegal and Ivory Coast occupy the 33rd and 34th positions, respectively.
Egypt will be participating in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations set to be held in Gabon between Jan. 14 and Feb. 5. The Pharaohs were drawn in Group D alongside Ghana, Mali and Uganda.
Ghana are ranked 54th, while Mali and Uganda occupy the 64th and 73rd positions, respectively.
Meanwhile, Argentina maintained their place on top of the FIFA rankings, followed by Brazil, Germany and Chile.
