AFCON Roundup: Favourites fail to impress in group B

KingFut rounds up group stage matches of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, taking place in Gabon.

Algeria vs Zimbabwe

Riyad Mahrez stepped up twice to deny Zimbabwe the first win of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He had given Algeria the lead on 12 minutes but Zimbabwe responded, only five minutes later, through Mahachi. Mushekwi then pulled them ahead with a penalty later in the first half. But Mahrez spared his country the blushes with an equalizer eight minutes from time.

Tunisia vs Senegal

Tunisia dominated their encounter with Senegal but suffered the first defeat of the competition. The Carthage Eagles created a succession of chances but wasteful finishing undid them. Senegal sealed the win in the first half with a penalty goal from Sadio Mané and a header by Kara Mbodji.

Senegal next play Zimbabwe while Tunisia faces Algeria. Both matches will be on 19th January.

I have dedicated part of my time in this bad world to following African football. From CECAFA to WAFU, COSAFA to UNAF & even the forgotten UNIFFAC.
