Ghana and FC Schalke left-back Baba Rahman was ruled out of the African Cup of Nations in Gabon as he suffers from an ACL rapture.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed in an official press release that Rahman suffers from a rupture of the meniscus and a particular tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with fluid collection in the left knee. Due to the lack of MRI facilities in Port Gentil, the defender had to travel to Libreville for the tests to be carried out, afterwards, the injury was classified.

FC Schalke said that the player will be returning to Germany to receive the needed treatments and will have to be assessed by experts in Gelsenkirchen, as he might undergo a surgery.

Rahman played in Ghana’s first group match against Uganda and was stretchered off after he twisted his knee 39 minutes into the game that Ghana won 1-0. After the initial diagnosis, it was later confirmed that the 22-year-old will not be able to play in AFCON.

It is expected that Rahman, who is on a season-long loan from Chelsea to the Bundesliga side, will be replaced by Anderlecht’s wing-back Frank Acheampong

The Black Stars will face Mali on Saturday in the second round of Group D.

In addition to being a hardcore football fan, Abdelrahman is a communications enthusiast who works in marketing, advertising, content creation and PR.
