Ghana left-back Baba Rahman has been ruled out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, in Gabon, after suffering an injury in Ghana’s opening match win over Uganda.

Ghana coach, Avram Grant had previously stated that Rahman’s condition was 50-50. But one day later it was confirmed that the young defender’s injury will see him miss the rest of AFCON 2017. He was withdrawn in the first half of the Ghana-Uganda match after twisting his knee.

He was flown to, Gabon capital, Libreville for scans. Now, he will fly to Germany where his club Schalke 04 will conduct further assessments on the extent of his injury as announced by the club.

The 22 year old defender has been capped 23 times by Ghana and played for the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana, who lead group D, next face Mali on Saturday, January 21st. They will finish their group matches against Egypt on January 25th.

I have dedicated part of my time in this bad world to following African football. From CECAFA to WAFU, COSAFA to UNAF & even the forgotten UNIFFAC.
