Gabon’s hopes of reaching the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations quarter finals have been handed a blow, after injury to midfielder Mario Lemina, with only one more group match left to play.

Mario Lemina’s injury setback saw him sit out Gabon’s second group match against Burkina Faso. He had suffered the injury in preparation for the encounter and was therefore left out of the matchday squad.

The Juventus midfielder started the opening match but with reports claiming he’s now set to be sidelined for two weeks due to a back problem. 23-year-old Lemina is one of a handful of binationals who have opted to play for Gabon. He previously played for France’s U20 and U21 sides.

It’s not yet known whether Mario Lemina will recover in Gabon or he will fly to Turin; effectively ending his AFCON 2017. He has 7 caps for Gabon.

I have dedicated part of my time in this bad world to following African football. From CECAFA to WAFU, COSAFA to UNAF & even the forgotten UNIFFAC.
