’s Jonathan Pitroipa and Jonathan Zongo have been ruled out from the rest of the Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining injuries.

The Burkinabe duo picked up injuries during their side’s 1-1 draw with hosts Gabon in Libreville on Wednesday.

Pitroipa sustained a muscle tear injury and was subbed off after just 11 minutes, while Zongo was replaced after the break after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture.

“Unfortunately the duo will miss the rest of the Nations Cup,” Burkina Faso Football Association president Sita Sangaré told AFP on Thursday.

“Zongo has cruciate ligament damage while Pitroïpa has a muscle tear. Zongo will travel to Spain to undergo surgery,” he added.

Burkina Faso currently sit second in Group A after drawing with Cameroon and Gabon. They are level with Gabon on two points, and two behind leaders Cameroon.

The Stallions will be aiming for a positive result in their last group match on Sunday against bottom-placed Guinea-Bissau, in order to advance to the next round and emulate the 2013 heroics when they lost the final to Nigeria.
